Additional Programmes

A Quiet Place offers a range of additional programmes that have been designed to support clients that are looking for extended and more intensive outcomes.

Art of Parenting - Involving each parent every step of the way…

Parents are encouraged into the A Quiet Place room from the offset and are always invited to contribute and benefit from the A Quiet Place Programmes.

Regular relaxation groups can develop into full Art of Parenting programmes when a group is ready. This is an option that education establishments are invited to implement and includes a series of courses that can be run as stand alone projects or to add value with other options.

The parenting courses consist of

  • Reflective Parenting
  • Emotionally Intelligent Parenting
  • Family Massage
  • Creative Parenting

It is an educational model that is totally non judgemental, allowing effective and practical approaches to family inclusion. The aims of the programme are:

  • To offer support that empowers parents.
  • To work alongside parents and tailor the courses for the needs of the particular group.
  • To develop a peer mentoring group that will be sustainable and enable them to run their own parent support group for hard to reach families.
  • To build capacity in the community.

The effectiveness of each group is second to none, leading to parental engagement, interest and inclusion within their child’s school and everyday life.

A Quiet Place also offers services to support families in their community, with an ethos geared toward having fun in a relaxed, valued environment.

Peer Massage

A Quiet Place Peer Massage is a programme which is used as part of AQP across the country. It was designed by a teacher for other teachers (or appropriate adults) to teach to pupils in a classroom environment. A number of short routines (3-5 minutes) allow the teacher to work with pupils by demonstrating, teaching and encouraging sensitive and appropriate touch amongst the young people themselves.
After these programmes it is found that children are generally ‘kinder’ to each other! Family members have also reported that the children have come home and given them a massage…

Peer Mentoring…

The A Quiet Place Peer Mentoring programmes are specifically designed to ensure that pupils are taught how to support each other. Each lesson is based on citizenship, enabling the class to identify and vote for a suitable candidate to become a peer mentor based on qualities and dedication.

These candidates then have a series of six training sessions that is based upon A Quiet Place's holistic approach. There is weekly scheduled supervision from each Peer Mentor who runs the training programmes. Confidentiality walks hand in hand with each Peer Mentoring programme so that the child protection schemes of the client are always upheld to the highest standards.

Ready Steady Learn…

As research shows, the brain learns best when it is completely calm yet alert. Ready Steady Learn prepares the brain to achieve this state by using a series of exercises that the teacher delivers at the beginning of a lesson. With a host of various intervention stages, each one can be chosen for a particular group at a designated time suited to the user.

It will enable the children /young people to:

  1. Concentrate.
  2. Listen.
  3. Follow instructions.

Fun is a big part of Ready Steady Learn and it is guaranteed that the children will be enjoying themselves whilst attending the programme, at the same time as achieving successful learning.

The Sanctuary…

The Sanctuary is a place a child can go that is part of the ‘behaviour’ policy of the client’s school, nursing home or college. Although not to be mistaken for a full A Quiet Place Environment, it is a programme that is dedicated to self control and management with additional help.

Traditionally, the Sanctuary has been the ‘chair outside the head teacher’s room’ which has a limited effect. By using rewards and praise, each teacher can work directly with the child to establish a specific outcome and an intervention that enables the delivery of that outcome successfully.

The Sanctuary provides a dedicated place for a child to safely enter when they recognise that they need to remove themselves into a cooling off area.

The programme aims to establish:

  • Recognising when arousal systems are heightening.
  • Knowing how to lower them with a variety of techniques.
  • Understanding the need to move away from a particular situation.

Theta Group…

Working as a family and focusing on team work, the A Quiet Place Theta Groups enable schools to manage pupils who can be either more difficult or challenging. In order to build self reliance and independence within children, the groups are set up to provide support and constant attention from key adults who are fully trained by A Quiet Place.

By allocating before and after school sessions, pupils can attend regular classes and gain additional support throughout their day. Each Theta Group provides:

  • A family group of consistent adults for regular daily support.
  • Development of self reliance and independence.
  • Development of emotions including resilience and empathy.
  • Development of social skills- self awareness, good communication, respect.
  • A familiar place to return whilst developing social skills, self esteem and self confidence.
  • Regular use of A Quiet Place effective interventions.
