“Your children are not your children, they are the sons and daughters of life’s longing for itself.” Kahlil Gibran
Every Child Matters
A Quiet Place ® services are designed to contribute to Every Child Matters outcomes. As well as using feedback to inform future practice based on changes in national policy and priorities.
It is designed to address the needs of children in danger of exclusion from school and to prevent the development of socially unacceptable behaviour or later mental health problems.
It is educational and holistic in it's approach using both traditional and complementary techniques in participation with the service user. It aims to provide on-going support for children and young people, staff and families within the context of the Home where appropriate.
Safe support for children who need longer term more intensive intervention than is on offer from A Quiet Place ® short term programmes, in order to access education.
Cocoon intends to offer a 'no blame' approach to hard to reach families. After many years of experience working with families in areas of high deprivation through A Quiet Place ® programmes in schools a pilot based on the same holistic integrated approaches could have a similar successful impact for Looked After Children.
The techniques are designed to empower the child/young person to manage their physiology more successfully in other words to develop an understanding of emotional arousal system, what triggers it off and how to contain it and manage responses appropriately.
This is essentially an holistic approach focusing on the individual, involving diet, exercise, emotions and thought patterns. Complimentary therapies such as massage as well as traditional approaches are used in the context of the family, community, culture, society and environment.
The impact of nutrition on our brains and bodies. Mind and body are not separate what we eat effects them both.
Many children have faulty diets which impact not only on their physical well-being but also on their behavior, mood and learning.
The programme integrates within the school system to support children, families and staff as well as the individual student or young person. The Linkage community Trust has become the first education provider to take on board the concept of 'A Quiet Place ®' to help some learners increase their self esteem and manage their feelings in a positive way.
Aims to provide a non-stigmatised service that is based on a positive model, that is both holistic, innovative and creative, based on identified local community needs with a sound common sense rationale.
